High Blood Pressure Herbs May Help You Naturally
High blood pressure is a serious problem and untreated can lead to stroke and heart disease. It affects a good percentage of the population. High cholesterol and poor nutrition are certainly factors as well as being overweight. Sometimes high blood pressure runs in families, so hypertension may be in your future. There are a few things you can do to minimize your risk, eating a healthy diet, exercising, and maintaining a healthy weight can help. There are also some high blood pressure herbs that can be used to treat high blood pressure, but they should be used after consulting your physician. It is tempting to use something “natural” instead of prescription medication but use caution when trying alternative treatments.
Hawthorne expands the arteries and improves blood flow. Garlic is another thing that improves blood flow, but should be eaten raw for maximum effect. If you hate the taste, garlic capsules are available or you can add raw honey to mask the strong taste. Ginger improves blood flow, reduces cholesterol, and relaxes the arteries. Cinnamon is known to reduce LDL cholesterol and stabilize blood sugar. Ashwagandha is a popular herb to reduce blood pressure, but should never be used without consulting a doctor as it may interact with medications the patient is already taking. Garlic, ginger and cinnamon are all pretty tasty as well, so adding them to your diet should not pose a hardship.
For those who love hot food, cayenne is great for the circulation, but the peppers need to be really hot. Serranos, habaneros, or African bird peppers are all good choices. Red clover is an herb that will thin the blood, thus improving circulation. Be sure to use high quality organic red clover. Doctors will always tell you to reduce your salt intake. Most of us use refined salt these days and replacing it with natural sea salt will be beneficial. Natural sea salt has a grayish cast. If it is very white, it has been refined.
If you have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, talk with your doctor about natural remedies. Physicians these days are increasingly open to alternative therapies in conjunction with prescription drugs. Whatever you choose, lifestyle changes are an important part in treating high blood pressure. Prescription drugs or high blood pressure herbs alone will not do the job. Improving your diet, exercising, and avoiding excess alcohol and tobacco use will improve your overall health and the other treatments will be more effective.
